The Rules for more Resin and Essential Oils

Resin is a solid or highly viscous substance of plants. They are often mixtures of organic compounds, principally terpenes. Many plants, particularly woody plants, produce resin in response to injury. The resin acts as a bandage protecting the plant from invading insects and pathogens.

People usually confuse Resin with Rosin but both are very different. The rosin is a solidified resin from which the volatile terpene components have been removed by distillation, these are closely related to the terpenes, and derive from them through partial oxidation.

The production of resins is very common in nature; for many years, plant families have been considered of importance to resin collectors around the world. These plants include morning glory, pine trees, ginseng, balsam root, sunflower, coffee, marijuana, parsley, dill, fennel, caraway, and many more.

Resin and Rosin have many uses, from chewing gum to waterproof protective coating, but the most important part of this incredible substance is its medicinal properties.

What can I do to help my plants produce more resin and essential oils?

The rule of cannabis and others resinous herbs are simple: Cultivators who want more potent and medicinal cannabis must carefully persuade their plants to produce more resin-bearing trichomes.

The rules are: Genetics - Light - Nutrients - Oxygenation

 Genetics is essential

The most abandoned area of cannabis cultivation is basically genetics. In few words: Awesome pot can’t be produced from poor - mediocre DNA.

Recommendations: Barney’s farm, Dinafem, Dutch Passion, Nirvana, and Reserva Privada could be an excellent choice for a good DNA strain.

 Lights are crucial

In terms of lighting, the number one rule is never; ever disturb plants during the dark cycle. The stress of disturbances can invoke significant damage on your plants during any stage of growth, but especially during the final weeks, right before harvest. Also, use the right lights for every stage. Lumen-Spectrum accuracy are very important to obtain maximum results either for veg or flowering.

For example:

Blue Light

The most important blue wavelengths are from 430 to 450 nm. This part of the spectrum is also known as cool light. These wavelengths encourage vegetative growth through strong root growth and intense photosynthesis. Blue light is often used alone during the early phases of plant growth, such as starting seedlings, when flowering is not desired.

Red Light

The longer wavelengths of light are red in color. The most important wavelengths in the red spectrum are from 640 to 680 nm. These wavelengths encourage stem growth, flowering and fruit production, and chlorophyll production. The red wavelengths are known as warm light and they are naturally more prevalent in sunlight during the shorter days of fall and winter.

Recommendations:You can find many brands out there, but we trust in Green Gear’s HPS, MH, and LEDs. Green Gear has proven to be efficient in terms of lumen-output and spectrum accuracy. This is a 100% guaranteed product. No hassles-Just our free-risk commitment.

  Nutrients make the difference

First, use high quality nutrients; second, you must provide the right amount of them (use your nutrient's feed charts). Too few nutrients will result in plants struggling and never reaching their potential or producing the amount of quality medicine desired. Overdoing it with nutrients can produce even worse results, causing plants to go into nutrient lock, where they cease absorbing and processing nutrients whatsoever.

Recommendations:To increase the purity and overall density of resins and essential oils which translate into trichomes and terpenes, you need nutrients with high concentrations of Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), and Silicic Acid.

Boost – Density – Bud Blaster are our growers’ favorite nutrients to make Resins and Oils surge to a higher production level.

Bud Blaster will provide high concentrations of Phosphorus and Potassium, Boost will act upon trichomes formation and potency, and Density promotes oil viscosity and concentration. Results are mind blowing; and of course, This is a fact not a marketing BS.

These are Just 3 products designed to obtain real and powerful flowers totally packet with Trichomes and essential Oils, and all of them work beautifully.

  Ventilation builds structure

Poor ventilation is one of the biggest sins. Without enough wind to flutter leaves and create some stalk bending, plants become weak. For example: In nature, the wind resistance causes plants to become stronger, with the ancillary benefits of helping regulate temperature and humidity and improving overall air quality.

Recommendations: Depending of your setup, oscillating fans are common in Hydroponic Systems. They are very easy to install and its air flow ratios are harmless to plants. Of course, you can choose whatever you consider is the best, but we stay classic.
